Wheels for the New 2015 Ford Mustang

December 23, 2014 Leave a comment

There is no doubt that the 2015 Ford Mustang is an absolute smash hit. The new car is much more refined, handles better and looks better then the previous generation car. But whenever a new car hits the market, the aftermarket has to scurry to make all new parts that customers will want to upgrade there new ride.

This year the new model Mustang is no different. As customers are now taking delivery of there new 2015 Mustangs the race is on the upgrade them. There are already many options for wheels that we have available. However, with the big Brembo brakes that the factory offers on the new Mustang, (Performance Package) buyers are relegated to flat faced wheels or wheels with a concave at best.

Now, we are excited that Scarallo Motorsport Wheels, the designers of ROH Wheels that came from Australia, has designed the Drift-R in 20″ for the 2015 Mustang. This style with its enormously deep lips has been an extra big hit for the company because buyers are getting sick of the flat faced “pan” look on there wheels. The flat faced look is easier for wheel companies to make in order to clear the bigger brake calipers. But to clear the bigger brake calipers AND have huge lips; now that takes a lot of engineering. Especially in the sizes that the Drift-R comes in for the new Mustang. A huge 20×10 wide wheel for the front and an even bigger 20×11 wide wheel for the rear.

Why such a wide wheel for the front, you ask?

Everyone knows what the importance of a wider wheel gives you on the back of the car. A wider wheel for the rear allows for a much wider tire on the rear for putting the power to the pavement. After all, your tires and wheels are the only thing connecting all of you added horsepower to the road. However, the front of the car is most often the most forgotten about  end of the car. The front of the car is what does the turning, experiences the highest g-force load under braking, and is responsible for the cars ability to be able to corner and change directions. Most of the time people do not realize this, but cornering a car is in complete opposition to physics. The last thing a 4000 pound unit that is going straight wants to do is change direction and turn.. This is exactly why we put bigger and bigger wheels and tires on the front of most cars. The Drift-R combination that Scarallo Motorsports cooked up for the 2015 Mustang is exactly what the doctor ordered for the cornering ability coming in a 20×10 wrapped with a 275 mm wide tire.

The factory Pirelli tires and small factory wheels on the 2015 Mustang really limit the car in its cornering ability as compared to the new tire and wheel setup that Scarallo offers. There test Mustang also eliminated the tremendous ” wheel hop ” under hard acceleration that these cars are dealing with.

The Mustang that we used as a test car in the pictures is an example fitted with Toyo Proxes T1 Sport tires 275 front and 285 rear with the Scarallo Drift-R in Lightening Silver. Five colors in all are available in the Drift-R for the 2015 Mustang; Lightening Silver (first 2 pictures) Matte Black (Carbon), Tuxedo Black (Gloss Black with Polished Lip) Titanium with Polished Lip, or Full Titanium (bottom 2 pictures)
